As you can see Dr. Buss is nearing the twilight of his lifetime and eventually he will retire from basketball. Naturally, he will look for a successor as owner of the Lakers. An owner that will continue the proud tradition of the team. Some says, his son Jim, some says the owner of Staples Center or do you have another one in mind?
Who do you think is the most suited next owner of the Lakers, after Jerry Buss retires?nba rules
Magic Johnson. He would be a great fit, but he would need to organize a partnership group to buy the Lakers. Then he could be the managing partner (or majority owner). He's rich, but not super rich to buy the team by himself.
Magic is a great businessman. He looks for opportunities that no other typical company would dare to enter, especially in low income urban areas. For example, people questioned if his Starbucks stores would be successful in those areas-- well he proved people in low income areas like a cup of premium coffee like people in the suburbs.
I think he could bring that ingenuity to the Lakers, who definitely need a talent overhaul (according to Kobe).

JERRY WEST
I think the Jack Nicholson
Jack Nicholson
can you imagine salary negotiations? You waaaaant a freakin' raise Kobe? I'll show ya a freakin' raise!
Phil Jackson
He is dating his daughter and needs to get out of coaching. I am sure he would love to be the big shot.
Mark Cuban, a freak show like that would be a perfect fit for LA.
JERRY WEST
I think that Jack Nicholson will make an aggressive charge to lead a group of investors. Should be interesting to see what happens. He's a huge fan and has shown great loyalty to the franchise with his attendance track record and support for them, so it wouldn't surprise me to see Buss feel that he'd be leaving it in good hands with Nicholson and co.
Have you been to RootZoo.com yet? Ask this question there, it's a brand new community just for sports fans, and you'll get some great responses from other basketball nuts . Check it out and set up a free screenname there, you'll love it.
First, owners don't retire, they sell. Second it is already a family run operation and will continue to be. His daughter already runs the team, and would continue to if the good Dr. were to pass away.
Jack Nicholson.
Me, except I think Jack Nicholson has the inside track.....and money.
Jack Nicholson and Magic Johnson together. First of all do you know how much Magic is worth? 850 million. Jack is probably now worth a hundred million. The Lakers are worth 600 million. So maybe Magic as a majority owner and Jack as a smaller owner. I think that those two together would be a great combo, Magic briging the basketball knowledge and winning atmosphere and Jack bringing the desire of a fan to see his team succeed. I'd like to see those two together.
Shaq-I'd love to see him as Bryant's boss! lol
