Personally, I don't think Bynum will even play in the playoffs this year. He's going to be the Lakers center for the next ten years so it's not worth the risk. I think that even without Bynum the Lakers still have a pretty good shot of winning it all.

No they don't need Bynum to win it all and I don't believe we'll see him in the playoffs...He's not game ready and to throw him into a playoff environment wouldn't be wise. Mihm is healthy and got in a few games (not productive, but at least he's got some game legs back)...Mbenga has been durable and is definately a defensive + for the Lakers. Turiaf and Radman are a bit on the smallish side to bang with the 7 footers but both have been doing it well...The Lakers definately don't lack size.

Lakers are good this year but they could have some problems if they meet the suns im not sure if they can win with shaq and amare in the paint now plus nash running the floor. Yeah I agree with you. I think Ginobli is the key to the Spurs offense. If you find a way to shut him down than you've really limited their already struggling offense. Also if you keep Parker out of the lanes Ariza I think has a lot of length with his wingspan and people with long wing spans like Grant Hill and Marion have really bothered Parker. Of Course I think the real key is the Lakers role players whether they can step up offensively or will the pressure of the conf finals get to some of the young players. We saw a lot of hesitation and lack of experience in the Lakers matchup against Utah especially in the 2nd round.

i think the Lakers will have to work Ariza in, but if he's healthy it'll help, because he can provide some athleticism and defense that Radmonovich and Walton lack. It may also allow the Lakers to play both of them together even at different spurts. It only helps to get him back because it gives you more diversity- i mean you can use him to help with Ginoboli at times.

First let me say that I am a Lakers fan.

No team s unstoppable. I would love for them to win this year and next year. But they have to play the games first. Wins and losses are part of the games. So are injuries and suspensions. Noe of us can predict the future. Who know who is going to have the next block buster trade or draft that will lift a team of the hump.

2. The entire Detroit Piston team retired.

6. Odom became good EVERY night. Atleast half the time anyway.

7. Tim Duncan retires.

8. Steve Nash retires.

Well, I don't know about 'unstoppable', but they will be tough next year, which is a good thing for us Lakers fans; then again, they looked tough right before Bynum got injured...so many things can happen by next year, I think any comment on who's great and who's not is premature. And I wouldn't want them to be unstoppable; do you want that kind of pressure on them? Some losses here and there are generally good; they expose weaknesses and teach players humility, before such things become irreparable.

I think its close but the Lakers have a superior backcourt with a decent front court and the better bench and coach. It definitely will be a good series

Point Guard: Fisher vs. Rondo. Lakers because Fisher has won three championships and can hit the outside shot with more consistency. Point guard play however won't decide the matchup as it has in past Finals

Shooting Guard: Bryant vs. Allen. Lakers because Allen has been inconsistent and Bryant is just the best even at small forward which he sometimes plays

Small Forward: Radmanovic vs. Pierce. Celtics Pierce is just the better player and he even has shown his defensive prowess

Power Forward: Odom vs. Garnett Celtics Garnett is better defensively and also is more consistent scoring wise and can dominant when he wants to while Odom is inconsistent and some nights he just disappears offensively.

Center: Gasol vs. Perkins Gasol easily wins this matchup offensively and defensively Perkins but obviously Gasol has a greater impact on his team than Perkins for the Celtics

Center- Gasol vs. Perkins- Perkins may be a better shot blocker, but Gasol can dominate the paint and is a great force to be reckoned with

Power Forward- Radmanovic vs. KG- Yeah, the great KG can do anything, but Vladdy can shoot 3s

Small Forward- Odom vs. Pierce- Good matchup, pierce is a better shooter while odom is better in the paint

Shooting Guard- Bryant vs. Allen- KOBE! Both are incredible shooters, but Allen isn't as productive as Kobe is.

Point Guard- Fisher vs. Rondo- I love Rondo, he's grown up so much, but this is probably the most even matchup in the series. Both can pass, shoot, and steal and take care of business.

X-Factor- Posey vs. Farmar- Both are different positions, but Posey is a great shooter, while Farmar is a great playmaker

Pierce vs Kobe: Kobe always guards best perimeter player on opposite team. Kobe will be unstoppable and the only player keeping the lakers in this series.

Allen vs Radmanovic: I don't think Radmanovic can guard Allen. I think Allen will give the Lakers big trouble cuz Radmanovic is too slow to follow him across screens for his catch and shoot plays

Rondon vs Fisher: Rondo is too quick for Fisher and will average 4 or 5 steals a game. Also they are the same height at 6'1" so Fisher has no advantage at all. The Celtics defensive scheme will prevent him from taking any open shots since he's quite old now and Rondo is a lot quicker than Tony Parker

I think everyone gets a ring. Executives, coaching staff, players. Anyone who contributed and is still on the roster. Even Chris Mihm!

Next year or the year after they could be challenging the record for wins. With four legitimate All-Stars (Kobe, Odom, and Pau have been and Andrew could be), great role players (Fisher, Walton, Turiaf, Farmar, Sasha) they have all the right pieces. Even if Fisher starts to show his age Farmar is coming along fine and could start and Fisher could be the deep threat (kind of like Kerr and Paxson). This team is pretty young as well.

I think Andrew just gives Phil more options on how he'd like to play. He can go big with Pau, Odom, and Bynum, or run a bit with Farmar, Sasha, Odom, Bryant, and Walton. He could basically match up with any defense thrown at him or send out the right type of defense for any team.

And besides being young, they've all got experience. Three years in a row in the playoffs. And look at how many of them have started games this season: Bryant, Bynum, Odom, Gasol, Fisher, Ariza, Turiaf, Walton, Radmonovic, and even Mihm.

Things look good for years to come!

Andrew Bynum would only make the Lakers better. Some of the Lakers struggle against teams like the Jazz, Spurs, Celtics (very defensive oriented rough teams) is rebounding- so Bynum would help the Lakers rebounding and blocking shots.

The Chemistry shouldn't be an issue because the Center is th easiest role to play in the triangle--and Bynum was leading the league in field goal .pctg before he went down- so he just picks up where he left off- and you add Pau to the mix at Pf, moving Lamar down to SF, three guys 6 foot 10 and above, that can help them really defend the paint, with Kobe and Fish on the perimeter (a pretty good defensive team- with incredible offensive fire power).

You also have a great bench.

If there are any chemistry issues they could always bring Bynum off the bench or imagine what they could get if they decided to trade him (they won't but just saying-- it's a good problem to have- worrying if adding Bynum would hurt chemistry). i think him and Ariza can only help the team and if the Lakers are coming off a ring- i think you see the potential of another dynasty in the making.

Anyone remember how that worked out for Duncan and Robinson in San Antonio (champs in '99 and '03, before D Rob retired)??

And they're playing styles are very similar, with Bynum being every bit of the beast that Robinson was in his prime, and Gasol being a somewhat less physical but more offensively skilled player than Duncan.

In fact, the impact that Bynum's absence is having on the team is quite clear in this series, with Utah bullying the Lakers on the boards, and pushing them down and demanding their lunch money everytime the Lakers come into the lane. If they were a poor[er] free throw shooting team, the Lakers would be down 3-2, and might have even already lost.

And that's another great thing about Bynum (especially when compared to Hack-Me-Shaq) --the guy can make his free throws!!

You add his hardnose defensive capabilities and inside presence, allow Gasol to play even smaller guys (which is still no short order in the west), allow Odom to play even smaller guys (where he should definitely flourish), and still have Kobe Bean Bryant cast as the second-best who ever did it???

Each year that the Lakers do not win the title it hurts- so off course it would hurt- because we are in a great position to do so.

I would basically be counting down the days until training camp. Because with a healthy Laker team- they ought to be the favorites to take it all.

They are going to be a tough out- but you got to respect that there are a lot of good teams in this league and so you got to make the most out of your opportunities.

In terms of Kobe and the MVP-- a case can be made for a lot of candidates and i think we've seen in this series why Kobe is truly the MVP-- but you figure he'll probably never get it- if he doesn't win it this year... they seem to change the criteria every year... But it's about the team first and Kobe 2nd.

With Kobe Bryant and the Lakers playing at the level they are, I can't see them not winning a Title. The biggest thing the Lakers are doing right now is moving the ball around. If they do that and Kobe continues to get double-teamed there will always be an open man. The bench is dominating. Kobe is dominating, Lamar had a few lower end games because of fouls but the Lakers still prevailed.

I think that the Lakers, with there home court advantage will make it to the NBA Finals. It may not be an easy trip, but, this Lakers team is playing the best in the West, and maybe better than their Championship years.

i think during the summer most Laker fans were upset because we thought that after Kobe's demands that the Lakers would have done something trade wise- but the only thing they did was sign Fisher (which wasn't even by design).

Everyone thought that they were going to get Garnett (only to have their hearts ripped out by the Timberwolves giving Garnett to the Celtics for not very much).

At that point- i just thought the Lakers knew that they couldn't find a deal to appease Kobe and i wondered if Kobe was going to sit out the year- and it was going to get that ugly. But not only did they start playing (especially Bynum) but just amazing...

Who woud have thought off the Gasol trade- i think most of us Laker fans at the time were hoping for a #5 or #6 playoff seed and hoping to pull a first-round upset to give Kobe some kind of hope and pull off something this off-season. Now we have a nucleus that can potentially win multiple championships in the next 5 years.

None of us saw it- but i don't think we could have wished for more. There have been a lot of ref calls in their favor. You can't even breathe on Kobe anyway or you get called for a foul. I think it sucks that they gave him the MVP award during the playoffs. Any awards should be given after all the playoffs are over. Kobe is only as good as those around him and I don't think he has the leadership qualities necessary for an MVP award anyway. Kobe and coach are both whiney and I won't even watch the Lakers anymore. The NBA as a whole has become way too theatrical and sensationalistic.

I wish man...but they gave him a contract extension and the Lakers are already past the luxury cap. I'm not sure who we would trade him for though. Jeez, he's such a bust. He was such a smart player at the beginning of the season, but that injury really ****** up his rhythm. He's an entirely different player now. Man.... Hopefully he comes back in the playoffs and plays like his old self. Lakers need good triangle offense and he used to be one of the best players to work the triangle with.

I think the Lakers will evaluate all positions. There's a glut of small forwards on the team, but Luke still has 5 yrs./$26M left on his contract; a lot of money due for an underachieving role player. If Walton is the odd man out next season, he will have to get healthy and rehabilitate his game.
Nah, you underestimate Walton too much. Luke is an excellent passer for his size and he could shoot. He is not dominant but he's okay for a bench player. He also has good basketball I.Q. I think the Lakers should keep him unless they find a better player to trade for him.

It is apparent that for the past three games the refs are calling the games in favor of the Utah Jazz. I think this is terrible for the game, because it is ruining the game. Wolf in sheeps clothing.... I guess you aren't watching the same games I'm watching. It seems to me that if anything the refs are clearly helping the Lakers. The NBA is simply dying to see the Lakers vs. Celtics in the finals. That would be their attempt to get the NBA back to the fore front of sports as it was in the 90's and football was second fiddle. I think the refs have been pretty bad this series but by no means have they helped out Utah.

Utah plays tough defense always have. The lakers are a good team no doubt but I truly feel the Jazz are a more rounded team that has a shot to win this series.

It's really amazing honestly. To see the team we saw last year basically almost get swept by the Suns and limp into the playoffs to being an elite team with the addition of D-Fish. D-Fish has really helped the Lakers out. It gives Kobe and Phil another veteran to trust at the end of the game. Rather it being Kobe not able to take the final shot and someone else needing to make a play, or making clutch free throws to seal the game. Bynum has obviously made a leap and a great improvement in his game along with Jordan Farmar. The Lakers are one of the deepest teams in the L which is sort of funny to say, but is true. If by Bynum continues to get better and learns to finish those offensive rebounds he seems to miss at times, and those great post moves, don't be surprised if the Lakers win a title before 2010 gets here.

kobes probably really happy they didnt trade bynum for kidd. IMO, bynum is the real reason why LA is this good, not kobe. bynum has made a monumental leap from last year to this year. last year he never had a jumper, now he does and its a good one. he is asserting himself and being more dominant, blocking shots and rebounding. as long as he continues to work hard and train with kareem, he will be something special and LA will continue to succeed.

The Lakers are in the middle of a rebuilding stage. This season, Los Angeles has shown improvement, and promising athletes in Andrew Bynum and Jordan Farmar. I also believe the recent trade for Trevor Ariza was good. The Lakers also have a good coach and supporting staff in Tex Winter and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Unfortunately, this Los Angeles franchise has not created a team identity, doing whatever it takes to pull a victory. The team chemistry seems to be good, although I'm sure the Kobe trade rumors have been negative to the team focus. In the next few seasons, the Lakers must develop a consistent plan that is mutual to every man on the roster.

I know Phil Jackson bases his coaching on certain principles such as trust, bench involvement, and teamwork. With time working against this franchise, Los Angeles is pressured to develop as a team at a demanding pace.
Let's keep in mind the main reason the Lakers are decent is because of Bynum. Bynum did the exact same thing last year and fell apart during the second half of the season. Don't think this year will be any different.

When Kwame was healthy, the Lakers were winning. Also, the trade for Ariza sort of disrupted the chemistry where Evans normally played instead of Sasha. I'm not bashing on Sasha though. However, once Ariza has gotten more playing time, the Lakers have done better. Mihm is also slowly getting back to the form to give the Lakers some scoring at the center position when Bynum is in foul trouble. Odom also struggled at the start of the season, but now he looks more comfortable scoring instead of hesitating.
They are a pretty good team right now. Andrew and Kwame still is the two-headed center, Lamar is a talented forward, and of course Kobe, he's always the man in there. It's just so unfortunate that the western conference is simply solid and the leaders in that part of the league is so invincible. Dallas, San Antonio and Phoenix, and even Utah, Houston and GS. That's so simple, the west really is a hell of a conference to be into..( go pistons!!!)

For example, people questioned if his Starbucks stores would be successful in those areas-- well he proved people in low income areas like a cup of premium coffee like people in the suburbs.

I think that Jack Nicholson will make an aggressive charge to lead a group of investors. Should be interesting to see what happens. I'm surprised that they won a close game, considering their 4th quarter melt downs in 5-6 games this season, but I'm not shocked.

Just as with any other team, staying relatively healthy will be key. Also, handling adversity later this season when they play something like 18 of 22 games on the road in Feb.

Speaking of February, I doubt the Lakers will make a deal at the deadline. Perhaps a move involving Kwame Brown's expiring contract, but he may have a greater value to LA as a defender than his $9M coming off some other team's salary cap.

Well, they're improving now. Especially Bynum. He had a career night outplaying Amare. Other guys like Odom are distributing. They are now playing like the Los Angeles Lakers and not the Los Angeles Kobes.

I agree with you for the most part, but they aren't an elite team unless they are at LEAST 3rd in their division, I think they need to trade Odom for another star. And their victory over the Suns tonight was outstanding! They were doing dunks all game!
Right now Lakers are one of the scariest teams in the West, they have the best player in the game, and a great coach who knows how to motivate his players. On top of everything you have a great young center who just scratched the surface of his talent. I see the Lakers going past 1st round this year, and pull off a stunning upset/ at least give Spurs a scare and get them all shakened up before the finals.

Sweeping a team who had 50 wins in the regular season was crazy. However their lack of defense sometimes concerns me. Against the Utah Jazz the Lakers will need to play better defensively so I wonder what can the Lakers do to improve?

This is why Bynum is so important to this team because he makes the Lakers a top notch defensive team without him there is no one to guard the paint.

They definietly are not the same team defensively without Bynum and Ariza- and we see how badly they need stops when they have those occasional offensive lapses.

If we get Bynum back that will clog up the middle a bit- and give us some better rebounding- i was concerned by: The amount of offensive rebounds we gave up, our sloppiness with the ball (turnovers) and our free throw shooting. Even though we swept- we definitely need to shape up on those things for the next round.

Hopefully, Ariza is sufficiently recovered, and can help on the perimeter. As far as interior defense is concerned, I'm not sure what the Lakers can do without Bynum's length and bulk. If Chris Mihm were healthy, he could certainly bang bodies in the low post. Unfortunately, he's not healthy and all the teams remaining in the playoffs have PGs who will push the pace, making Mihm a liability.

It is their defensive shorrtcomings that I'm afraid will keep the Lakers from making the Finals this season. Don't think there's anything the organization can do to address this until the offseason.
They've had the same problems for what seems like forever: they give up way too many offensive rebounds and they can't defend the perimeter. It was like that before Phil Jackson, it was like that during their 3peat, and they were like afterward. They've gotten marginally better at it, but I'm not holding my breath. Teams that can fly and leap through the building as well as shoot the 3 are problem teams for the Lakers. I'm glad the Warriors didn't make the playoffs. They are the prototypical Laker killer recipe.

It's just a new lighting technique they tried this season and decided to stick with it b/c fans liked it so much. It really does brighten the focus on the court. But it's not as dark in the arena as it looks on TV. I went to a game on Sunday and didn't even notice it really, but the court did look bright and have kind of a live theater effect but it's not as dark in the seats and it looks in tv. It;s great and other arena's should do it.

Its a system called lights out,which darkens everything but the court.
So the many celebrities watchin the Lakers game have their privacy. Because they are always seen during games, when all they want to do is watch a basketball game and the amazing Kobe Bryant
they wanted to create a theater ambience so they turned all the lights off so the audienec only focuses on the players on the court.
I am guessing its the whole hollywood effect, that when they turn down all the lights except on the court it puts them more on a center stage.
They are trying to make the Staples Center look more like the old Forum that the Lakers used to play in. The lights also used to only shine on the court.

I'm going to go on record as saying the Lakers won't make the finals this year, which doesn't mean they haven't taken a huge step forward. I'm of the opinion that there's a natural progression from lottery team to playoff participant to contender to champion. I think the Lakers are at phase 3 in this evolution.

Given an additional year's experience, and an offseason to evaluation what other piece they need to add will put LA where they want to be in 2008-2009.

What are the number of rows in a section and seats in a row for Lakers games in the 303 Section?

I got some tickets for my dad for the Staples Center for a Lakers game. I was wondering more specifics than the Lakers site gives as to where in the 303 section we are at.

Does anybody know the total number of rows and the number of seats in a row for seciton 303 for Laker games at the Staples Center?

Also, on top of our tickets, it says :"Royal Room Admit One", is that something on all tickets or do we have access to a special area?

Yes, I am a Lakers fan and it's obvious they got help, but it's been the same story for all home teams during the playoffs. Home teams are 19-1 in the second round, and the refs have been a huge part of that.

They definitely got calls they didn't get in Salt Lake City, so yes they got some favorable calls. Whether or not that is the reason they won is debatable. You cannot deny that turnovers cost the Jazz this game. Deron Williams was pretty good, but twenty some turnovers on the road means you will probably lose. Also, the Jazz led the league in fouls in the regular season, so its their style of play, not a conspiracy for the Laker-Celtic final.

Now, do you not admit that the Jazz had an advantage over the Lakers at home?
The Lakers did get a lot of help...from their bench, their improvement of free throw shooting, improvement on Offensive/Defensive Rebounds, Kobe drawing the double team to allow open teammates. All which were big improvements from game 4.

Yup...Lakers did get the help they needed from one another...hopefully it will continue to game 6, if not then I know it will in game 7 ;)
